February 2026
So far all our blogs have been about the horses. There are plenty of campers who would like an update about other activities. Here you go:
It would be difficult to bounce the tennis balls very well in the multiple inches of snow that are covering the tennis court right now. The lines are all covered, so we can’t tell if the ball is in or out. The deer have been looking around some on this side of the court.
Fencing would be a real workout right now. The snow is well over knee-high; advancing and retreating in that would be awfully hard and take so much energy! The cones would disappear in the snow and it would be difficult to keep track of whether the fencers are staying on the strip. It would also be difficult to fit the fencing jackets over the winter attire that is necessary right now. Winter gloves would protect hands well, though!
Going down to marksmanship and crafts would be difficult. You can’t see the steps very well right now. Duncan has plowed the area after several rounds of snow, so the piles at the edges are hard to climb over.
Here is the lake right now. The deer have been walking from our shore over to the peninsula; they can’t do that in the summer! The docks are up on the beach so they are not getting squeezed by all the ice.
Here is Dot’s snow angel. It wouldn’t show up well in the water over the summer, but looks great right now! Maybe she was practicing her elementary backstroke - looks like it would be pretty good!
The net has been put away for winter, so it is a little hard to know exactly what side of the court you are on. It would be really hard to play a game right now.
It would be a long way to transport the sail boats and canoes all the way from the green barn to the waterfront. It would also be hard to balance with them sitting on top of the ice.
It would be difficult to set up the targets for marksmanship. Trying to see over the snow while in the prone position would make it quite a feat to hit the target.
Here is Dot in her lifeguarding position. She is wearing a lot more than she usually does at the waterfront and she didn’t have to swim out to the raft! She is sitting just like she does for 4th hour, waiting for the campers!
